Cavs contract situations....

After this current year ends, Boobie, Delonte and Devin Brown all have contracts that are up.  I believe Boobie and Delonte are restricted free agents and the Cavs have the chance to meet any offers.  Devin Brown is unrestricted though.  (Although I could be getting my nomenclature and rules confused with the current ongoing NFL offseason.)

Unfortunately that's the only cap relief the organization will get and they are $25.7 million over.  Bad news is that all 3 currently have contracts only worth $3.7 million combined and are drastically outperforming what they are getting paid.  Just because of the cap situation I don't see all 3 coming back, best case scenario Boobie and Delonte do.

Year after the Varejao situation presents itself.  He's unrestricted and feelings between him and the front office seem to be strained.  Fortunately Wally's $12.75, Snow's $6.7, Joe Smith's $5.2, Damon Jones' $4.17 and his own $5.36 million give them some negotiating room in order to get him paid before he hits the open market.  If Joe Smith and Damon Jones still have anything left in the tank at that point I'd also like to see them re-signed for a reasonable amount (preferrably much less than their current deals.)  Seeing the contract relief the organization gets this year I wouldn't mind them biting the bullet for the year before and keeping Devin Brown; I don't know if they could do that within the rules or whether or not it's economically feasible though.

The next year of course the only thing that matters is LEBRON.  The Cavs have Bird rights to him so they can pay him more money for longer than any other team in the league no matter what the organization's cap numbers are at.  However Z's $10.14, Big Ben's $15.5 and his own $13.04 million  should give the Dannys plenty of cash to spend and the cap should not be an issue.  (Sasha's $4.25 is up this year as well for the record.)

Now I'm not a capologist and some of those big expiring contracts are going to have big value on the trade market.... so this could all be moot with a few offseason moves.  As long as they don't sign any free agent Donyell/Hughes type deals or do any ridiculous trades they should be alright though.
