As for Marvel however this could be a totally unforeseen and unprecedented business strategy with their properties in order to maximize the cash out there. Everyone is pretty much going to see the first movie in the series (no matter what the property) especially if they promote the shit out of it, BUT if they make that one crappy and re-start the property again a couple years later to "do it the right way" they can re-ignite the fervor. Therefore they get two first movie opening weekends and their characters are so iconic and cemented that the crappy first movie doesn't damage them. (The other specific character I am thinking about this being for is Punisher as that is coming out with another remake again, same situation as Hulk, not a sequel.)
